Hi Everyone :)

I have been having this problem for quite awhile now and I have done
everything that was provided for me by the people who tried to help. Which
was; clearing cookies and cache, checking browser settings, going to
Microsoft help topics, reinstalling IE browser .. etc.. but so far I just
don't know what to do now based on what I've done so far. :(

My issue is that I can't access or go into lets just say .. "www.ebay.com"
and "www.amazon.com", so far that is the only 2 websites that I'm having
troubles going in. Firewall, I checked as well and its in allow mode.

When I do type the URL in address bar I get this in IE 7:
"http://search.live.com/results.aspx?FORM=DNSAS&q=ebay.com" ---Redirects me
to this and I'd have to click on the different ebay links provided. Then....
When I click on the "ebay link" this appears.... "Internet Explorer cannot
display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address. "

When I type in URL on Mozilla Firefox this appears:

"Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ebay.com.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in
a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy,
make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

Why is this happening? I don't seem to be having any problems with my
connection or whatsoever, and I don't have a virus in system. I have Windows
Defender and AVG only running in pc.

So it's really hard for me to figure out what seems to be doing it.

I have WinXP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

Any smart people out there who can help? I would really appreciate it. I've
been having this problem for 3 weeks now, I contacted Comcast about it but
they were no help. So yea. :)

Thanks!

what you can try is to boot
into safemode with networking
and see if those sites work.

however, because you are in
safemode, i wouldn't travel all
around the internet during the
testing.

other sites to test is
microsoft.com
msn.com

the results you get
by the above will provide
some clue.

This link will troubleshoot IE; it's interactive and looks at the
current settings.

In Internet Options, Content tab, if Content Advisor is turned on, click
the Settings button, "Approved Sites" tab, and make sure the sites
aren't listed with a red icon. If they're listed, click to highlight,
click Remove.

In Internet Options, Privacy tab, click the "Sites" button and look for
the sites mentioned. If any are there, remove or set to "Allow".

Hi databaseben~

I tried the boot in safebode with networking and tried those 2 sites that
were not working but all I got was the same response. I can't access the site
still but I can access MSN and Microsoft websites. What do you think is
causing this??

I'm so confused now..... haha.

HI JOE~

Thanks again for trying to help me :)
I really appreciate it.

Ok, so I went to that website you provided to check and see what's causing
my IE to not work and the result was it seems to be fine. Except that I just
can't seem to go to these two websites .. "www.ebay.com" and
"www.amazon.com". I even checked the allow sites as well.

Anymore ideas?

What firewall are you using ?

check that port 443 (tcp/ip) is enabled on your windows firewall. if its
blocked you wont be able to access sites that use the port for transactions.

it is hard to tell what is
blocking the sites because
there are a number of ways
to do so.

since firefox and ie can;t
access those sites, then
it is unlikely a browser
issue.

what you can do is to
access the homesite to
firefox and get free
technical help from them.

since both browsers are
inflicted, whatever can
be done by the firefox
team to get their browser
functional will likely work
for the ie as well:

Hi Nanny!

Yes I checked and its enabled. So I typed "www.ebay.com" and it still
doesn't work. What do you think is causing this? :(
