Problems accessing shares

Matt

We have a Windows 2000 server and Windows 2000
workstations. A number of machines have difficulty
getting access to shares on the server eg. a user will
double-click a mapped drive and it will say 'cant be
found'. If the user tries it again, after about the 3rd
time they get access to the share.

I thought it could be something to do with WINS, but (not
being a WINS expert) it looks as though its configured
correctly (theres not a lot to do!!). Can anyone give me
any pointers as to how to diagnose the problem

Thanks.

Instead of relying on netbios broadcasting or WINS why not implement a DNS
server to resolve your namespace.

The WINS server will bind only to the NIC at the top of the binding list at
the server (in case the server is multihomed). Also, WINS usually doesn't
add it's own address in the WINS database (this is probably what you suffer
from). Just add the WINS server's address to database manually.

I'ld suggest reading this KB:
