Hello All

I am emailing a report in Snapshot format, and in the email message I
include the link to

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b73df33f-6d74-423d-
8274-8b7e6313edfb&displaylang=en
in case the recipient doesn't already have it.

I have just tested this from a PC without Snapshot Viewer, downloaded and
installed it, but then ontrying to open the file I got the 'Microsoft Office
Professional - preparing to install' window, then it asks for the MS Office
CD. Why? Is it because the filewas produced from a A97mdb, whereas I was
trying to open it on a PC running A2K? The Snapshot Viewer I downloaded
(from the above link) claims to be Snapshot Viewer for Access 2003, 2002,
2000, and 97,
soI thought it wouldbe OK .

I would be very grateful for any help.

Leslie,

I have had similar problems, and others have also reported same. I will
do some research on this problem. What version of Windows are you using?

Steve

Thanks for your reply.

I am using Windows2000 Professional, 5.00.2195, Service Pack 4.

Hope that helps. Do you think this is a bug?

Great!
Are you aware of any 'workaround' to deal with this (apart from avoiding the
use of Snapshot files!)

Thanks
Les.

Les,

Unfortunatley, because of the relativley low impact of this problem, I
can't see it percolating to the top of Microsoft's priority list any
time soon.

Hello Steve

Thanks for your reply.

Damn!

It might have a relativley low impact for MS, but for me this could be a
real pain: if recipients can't (be bothered to!) find their Office CD they
will reject the move to emailed reports, which should have been a win-win
development for us. I know there is the possibility of using PDF files, and
I have installed cutePDF writer and it works fine, but I cannot use a macro
SendObject command, or VBA MailTo (?), to output PDFs. I have read the info
at http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/email/reportsasattachments.htm, but this
eemed pretty complex and I just didn't understand enough of it in order to
go down that route: and snapshot files appeared to be a very nice, simple
answer!

I'll just have to see how many recipients don't already have snapshot viewer
and struggle install it.

Thanks for your help anyway.
Les
