problem with yahoo messenger 8

can not close the messenger using X and cannot minimize or maximize the
messenger using the Max and Min buttons

Change Yahoo's skin to "Classic". Look under "Appearance".

Several programs that have the ability to change the "skin"-
some of those skins do not work well in Vista, especially with
Aero glass. In those cases, using a basic or "classic" skin usually
fixes most of those issues.
