I change the way my computer is viewing a folder and I
have the settings for my folder options set to remember
each folders view settings but views keep changing to the
tile option, which I don't want. Some folders I want to
view as icons and some I want to view as a list. I make
the changes, close the folder, and then a little later
they change back.
I think it only started this since we updated with a patch
for some worm a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Lydia,

Some information that may help:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Lydia--

In addition to applying Kelly's tweak from her site, you might want to try
out something overlooked which you can use for all but filmstrip and list
views the "Show in Groups" feature reached on the folder toolbar by
View>Arrange Icons by>Show in Groups. It may be one of the niftiest features
of Windows XP--it's not in Win 2K. I think I ran into it on Kelly's site
from a Chris Perillo (Lockergnome) list.

What This Does That Helps Find and Organize Files and Folders:

In any view except Filmstrip and List, this feature superimposes headings
and that's the organizational and convenience beauty of it. It makes the
window look like an index.

You can sort by name, size, type, modified. Name is alphabetical by letter
and great for retrieval of files--saves a lot of time. Size gives you
headings Tiny, Medium, Small, Folders. Dates gives Yesterday, Last Week,
Earlier This Month. It makes hunting down icons or files in crowded folders
much easier.

To apply to all files and folders: Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder
Options>View>Apply to all Folders.

Then you can change an individual folder to suit you if you like--I have my
downloads folders list by "last modified" but show in groups organizes them
like a book index with headings and speeds searching.

Kelly--

Thanks for the regedit. I try to watch that great list often, but it's
always growing (fortunately) and there are a lot to remember. I keep your
A-Z minimized to remind myself to keep reading it and read it some more. I
wanted to ask you about the two sites because they seem to have different
info on them--they open with different web pages but I've also been able to
get some info from this one I can't get from the other Kelly's Korner link.
Are they two parallel sites?

Thanks,
