Power went out and came back. My XP rebooted and
installed a new interface for my wireless nic.

SO i configured it the same way, except this time it will
not get on the net. Peer-to-peer networking works fine, I
can move files to and from it, but cannot surf the net.

I tried name resolution and the pc will not resolve
external names but I can ping the addresses. I can ping
my dns servr too (internal and external)

WHen set for DHCP it doesn't pickup and IP, so it's
static. When on DHCP and i try to renew ip tells me
socket does not exist or something along those lines.
I tried the xp IP reset (netsh in ip reset) but no luck

I have tried changing to different dns servers no
difference.

Any ideas?? im stumped!! i installed a new nic with cat5
cable.. still no luck

I'm having a hard time understanding your configuration settings. Are you
using DHCP? Or did you give up and give your adapter a static IP address?

Just off hand, it sounds like the gateway address isn't set properly, but
that's just a hunch.

Open a command prompt and type: ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt

Then, cut and paste the contents of the ipconfig.txt file to a message here
and it will give us a better idea of what is going on.
