Problem with Windows Installer after System Restore

I recently used System Restore because of some problems I was having.
Everything went smoothly except for one very annoying problem. EVERY time I
open any Windows folder, Windows Installer pops up. For example, if I try to
open My Documents, Windows Installer will immediately open, instead of the
folder. The weird thing is that if I click on My Documents again, the folder
opens up, and Windows Installer is still running. I don't know what exactly
the installer program is searching for, or what it is trying to install. Any
suggestions as to how I can deal with this problem?

Email any suggestions to (e-mail address removed) or just reply to this post.
Thanks!

Have you gone to the Windows Update site since you did the restore? If
not then you need to do so as all Windows Updates issued since
whatever date it was that you restored to will probably have to be
reinstalled.

If that does not resolve the issue then use Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs, locate the entry for Windows Installer 3.1, select it and
then click on Remove. Reboot the computer when the uninstall is
complete then go back to Windows Update again and get the latest
Windows Installer.

Good luck

Unfortunately, the solution you proposed did not solve the problem. I have
uninstalled Windows Installer, and yet, it stills keeps running, even after I
have uninstalled it! My hunch is when I did my system restore, it went back
to point just as I removed Adobe Acrobat Professional from my computer. I
looked into my Add/Remove Programs list, and it is still there.
Unfortunately, I cannot uninstall the program. The error report states...

"This package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and
that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this
is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

Furthermore, under the eventviewer, I received an error message saying...

Detection of product '{AC76BA86-1033-0000-7760-000000000002}', feature
'Distiller', component '{2B05FFFE-3ACD-4FCB-A2A1-242F0F0812C6}' failed. The
resource 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Startup\'
does not exist.

Do you have any ideas how can remove Adobe from my computer, or at least
erase it from the registry?

Thanks!

I have managed to find a temporary solution to my problem. I went to
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and downloaded the file on line
94. This is a REG File, which I saved to my hard disk. All it does is prevent
the Windows Installer from continuing with its action. However, this is only
a temporary fix, because I am currently unable to add/remove programs from my
computer. Does anybody know a way that I can remove Adobe Acrobat
Professional from my computer without using Add/Remove?

Thanks,
Tejas

Checking startup may be a good idea.
click start - run - type msconfig press enter click startup tab and uncheck
if there is something about windows installer. See if it helps.
