I have a canon bj 10ex inkjet printer (an old printer) that i would like to
get working on my XP computer however the 'microsoft signed' driver
distributed with XP does not work. Explained: the driver installs and the new
printer is added to my list of printers - however when I print, the first few
lines of a document print fine, before printing abruptly stops, the audiable
printer alarm souds and the printer error light flashes.

There is no problem with the printer as it works fine with my Win 98
machine. So I'm guessing there is a problem with microsofts driver.

Canon say the driver distributed with win XP should work fine, and have
therefore not produced a driver of their own.

Any suggestions welcome

You're out of luck with respect to any other drivers for the reason
stated in your next to last sentence.

However, all may not be lost. Completely uninstall and re-install the
printer following the directions here from MS-MVP Cari:
