Problem with Whidbey

I installed the beta version of Whidbey last week and first made a
sample project for smart devices just to see the new features. All did
work and I could try any of the features.

Thenafter I tried a second project, a web project. And now I can't
reload the smart device project anymore. The studio crashes when loading
this project. Also creating a new smart device project doesn't work
anymore, after some while the project wizzard crashes. Increasing the
virtual memory seems to have some influence, couse it takes a longer
time till the crash.

Is there a known problem?

Unfortunately, the March'04 Whidbey release is not a beta; it is a
technology preview and it is extremely unstable. Although the Framework v2
is not bad, VS itself is slightly short of a pile of pants at the moment.

I have had problems getting even the most basic Windows Forms application up
and running with VS2005. It is probably best to just wait for the proper
beta before trying to do too much with it.

Martin.

Hi,

Well, you are in the future then :)
The beta will not ship until summer's end according to MS

And IFAIK the march version is cover under NDA or it's not?

Cheers,

Wernfried,

In addition to Martin's reply, even when the first beta of Whidbey is
released, it will be safest to install it on a machine that is not your
production development machine. This is a normal beta precaution.

As Martin points out, the version of the Compact Framework included in the
"preview" version of Whidbey isn't up to Beta-quality but it is fairly
stable and complete. If problems in the preview version of the Visual
Studio tools are blocking you, please remember that the v2 (Whidbey)
Compact Framework can run applications developed using Visual Studio .NET
2003. You may be able to begin your testing of the v2 Compact Framework
using applications developed under VS2003 and then copied onto a device
with the v2 installed.
