Problem with where files are copied for Dual Boot

Hi, I'm installing RC-1 to dual-boot with XP Home. I've got my partitions as
I want and have selected my 20GB y: partition in the installer (which is
running from inside XP - no DVD burner here). However, I notice that during
"copying windows files", files are actually added to my main 80GB c:
partition.

I want to know if this is normal, had installation got the partition right
and is just using c: for storage - or will it go ahead and install on c:
rather than y:.

Thanks for your help.

Rob,

I have a dual boot with WinXP Home as well. Firstly I assume that you have
everything backed up as a misfire with the install can lead to...you know.

WinXP and Vista will name your drives differently depending on which OS is
running. On my system with WinXP running, XP is on the C partition and Vista
is on G. With Vista running, Vista becomes C and the XP partition becomes D.

Vista will retain the name of a partition if you give it one in XP, so you
can have extra assurance that the files are going in the right place.

Anyway, I just remembered where I found this info, so rather than listen to
me, follow this link to something that works.

Thanks for your reply Paul. However, I don't think this is the solution.

In isntallation I have selected 'Custom Install' and then proceeded to
choose my partition "Y: Vista".

However, when install begins "Copying Windows Files", the folder
'$WINDOWS.~BT' is copied to my "C: XP" drive and not the "Y: Vista" partition
that I had selected. I am backed up but I would like to save time by finding
out before hand if this is normal - or is the installer mistaken into
thinking it should install on my"C: XP" partition?

Rob:

I have the same directory on my C drive (the WinXP drive). It works fine
like this, so I would say it is normal. BTW the folder size is 414Mb.

I don't know why it does this, but it doesn't appear to have any conflict
with WinXP when I use XP.

Also, you can change the dual boot default to XP ONLY through Vista (Vista
will be the default initially).

Good Luck

Paul
