after i installed vista it was running ok for a couple of hours but then it
started to freeze and i had to shut down, sometimes i got a blue screen. Now
i try to start up my computer again and the monitor is blank. as far as
connections everything seems ok. why isnt windows starting?

First problem sounds like a memory problem. Vista using memory harder than
XP.
Boot from DVD, run the tools.
-Start with the Startup Repair Tool.
-Then try System Restore to when it was booting
-Lastly run the Memory tester

Lots of stuff to try.
