ok so well i decided to update my driver for my GeForce 4
MX 420. so i go d/l the newest driver(version 45.23) and
install it and so it tells me i have to reboot so i do.
When it is rebooting it gets all the way to the part
where is says windows starting up then it says preparing
network connections then it just restarts. It will go all
the way up to that again then restart again. It would do
it as many times as i allowed it to. Im pretty sure
installing a new video driver shouldnt be causing this
problem but then computers are never easy. If you know
anything about this problem and how to fix it that would
be awsome. THanks in advance Bryan Swegman

thanks for the input but ive already tryed that. another
thing i uninstalled all drivers and used just a VGA. then
i reinstalled the video card with the drivers. Everything
looked fine and then i rebooted it for a test. it still
restarted on its own at that same point and i couldnt get
it to work so... im thinking if just formating and
starting over, but its my dads comp and not mine so he
wants stuff on there.

hey thanks for ur input. I figured it out. Some how the
onboard video card got enabled(so i think this was the
problem) and when i disabled it it worked fine after that.

I hope you disabled the onboard VGA in the BIOS... Check the many posts
below on how to. (press 'del' or so at startup, 'integrated peripherals',
and put 'initial display' to slot in stead of onboard. watch out what you do
in here, or dad's gonna be mad).

Ah, and if you and your dad did a thingie called "backup", you wouldn't have
to worry about formatting (although unnecessary in this case). Just use more
than one partition, and use one partiton for expendable data (MS products
;) ), the other to back-up your files.
