Dear all

about two months ago, I installed a trial version of WhiteSmoke, a program
designed to enhance texts. Then, I realized I did not need it, so I decided
to uninstall it.
The program uninstalled, but a very annoying toolbar consisting of 18
entries (WhitheSmoke) remained on the top toolbar of Word.
I tried everything to get rid of them, including checking for any WhiteSmoke
entries in the Registry (I found 2 and deleted them), running several
spywares, in addition to the usual operations on the
toolbars/templates/macros.
No way. I wrote several times to the manufacter's support, but they seem to
know less than me on the issue, as they keep replying with nonsensical
instruction.

Is there anybody who can help me? Or else anybody who experienced a similar
issue?
Thank you so much for your replies and help.

Best regards

Antonella

You could try CWShredder, version 1.59 (direct download):

http://www.pcpyme.es/Downloads/20041013030_01_01/cwshredder.zip

(There's a 2.0 install version also, but that didn't seem to be much
improved and messed up some peoples hosts-file)

Did you try to uninstall and re-innstall Word (or Office)?

If u try CWShredder, google for InterMute - they do the further development
of it; current version is 2.0

I've encountered similar problems. Did you delete the folder that WhiteSmoke
was installed to? Uninstall routines sometimes leave the install folder
behind.

In my case, the uninstall left behind the folder. There was one DLL still
left in there and once I discovered that and deleted that everything was
solved. Alternately, if there is someway you can discover the date of your
install, try to search for DLLs in your Windows / System / MS Office folders
that were created on the same day or don't match the other creation days.
Examine their properties (Alt-enter then check version) to see if they are
related to WhiteSmoke or the developer. If you suspect so, move them to
another temporary location until you can confirm one way or the other.

Also try to get a hold of the freeware version of jv16Powertools. It's very
good at rooting out unwanted registry entries from software.

Another route : Try some freeware proggie like Whats Happening when you run
Word. The list of running processes may give you some clue as to what /
where the offending program is.

thanks so much. A guy suggested to change the name of the normal.dot file: I
did it and it worked! All the Whitesmoke's disappeared from Word.
Anyway, thank you everybody for you suggestions anh help. Much obliged.
