Hi

I have a problem with the system sounds. When I receive an email, I have a
simple bip and not the default sound for that. On MSN, when someone send me
a message, I don't have a sound.

On the Sounds and Multimedia properties panel, the scheme selected is
Windows Default.

Where might the problem come from?

Thanks
Faith

When I first started using Win2K Pro in March of this year, and was attacked
by a virus, the 'sound' that you normally hear following a successful logon
disappeared completely. Your case may be different, but it's worth a check.

Hi Mark

Thanks a lot for the long explanation.

I've tried what you have suggested and I still have the same problem.
With my new sound scheme, I can see that the right wav file is selected for
the right event (ie New message {for MSN Messenger}), I can hear the right
sound from that panel but it is still impossible to have that file sound
played for the event when he occur in Windows. I haveve a simple "bip"
instead.

The problem might come from my graphic sound card, a Yamaha OPL3 SAx.

Hi

I was attacked by a virus too some month ago but I didn't made a correlation
between the virus and the system sounds that wasn't played. The virus was
removed the day my anti-virus software detected it (after a Live Update of
that product).

Have the same problem with some event sounds not working. Sounds work only
in IE, MS Office and the Start menu. In Control Panel when selecting event
sounds, the test sound occurs so there is no problem with sound card or
volume. We've been looking for a solution to this problem for well over a
year.
