I figured out more about this problem after reading several posts and the
Microsoft page. I tried a few third party password retreival tools and they
all said that the database was not password protected. I assume now what
she did to it was assign user level security. However, I was not one of the
people this person set up an account for to get into this database so I can
not run it or modify it now. How can I get around that? I can't even copy
the database or export the objects. To top it off, the people who used to
be able to run the database (only run, no one could modify it) can no longer
do so. I need to get into it just to repair whatever is wrong with it.
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Kim
Someone who no longer works for our company created a database which we need
to access and modify but there is a password set on it. We are still in
contact with her but she can not remember the password. If we go in to try
to modify the tables, we get the error
"You don't have permission to read 'table"
To run this object, you must have Read permission for it. For more
information on permissions and who can set them, click Help."
We get a similar error when we're tryin to view, but it says we don't have
Open/Run permissions. I read a document on Microsoft's page which says that
this type of error can happen if the owner is not correct in User and Group
Permissions. I went into Change Owner on User and Group Permissions and it
is true all of the tables, queries, forms etc have the user <Unknown>. I
tried to change the user but it tells me I don't have permission for that
either. Another thing Microsoft's document says to do is to import all the
objects to a new database. I tried that as well and it says we don't have
import, export, or link permissions and that we must have Read Design and
Read Data permission.
Does anyone have any ideas how we can get past all of this?
