Problem with sound on Vista programs

I have an Intel 865 perl motherboard with a built in sound card. Intel uses
soundmax for the program to operate this and I updated to the latest
software, but not working correctly. The volume control on WMP11 does not
control anything, have to use Vista volume control to adjust. Also have to
go into config on sound software all the time and change the sound quality
just to get it to work for a while. Any Ideas?

I've got similar issues with the same motherboard. WMP11 will work for a
while, then the next time I use it, there is no sound. I have also messed
around with Winamp, and sound will stop on it after a while. I get
"directsound buffer" errors. Sometimes I can change the "directsound
output" from, "01: Primary Sound Driver" to "02: Volume Control (Soundmax
Integrated Digital Audio" and the sound will come back. Then it will die
again, and only a reboot will fix the problem, and only temporarily.

However, when the sound does work, all the volume controls seem to work.
