Problem with Serial Port drivers in WinXP

Hi Everyone,

I have a device that works on Serial Port. Till now, I have not faced any problem with it.

Sometimes before, I bought a new laptop and had Windows XP with it. Now, when I attach the device with this laptop, New Hardware Found wizard do not come and it does not ask for drivers. I have not installed any yet. And this problem is sporadic, sometimes I got the wizard.

I am attaching the device on the same USB port everytime. And previously, I had been using Windows XP only.

Awaiting for suggestions...
 
You say that it is a Serial connection, but then that your attatching it to the same USB port on the laptop each time - i'm assuming you have a USB-Serial convertor cable like what Targus and equivalent's do? If so are the drivers for this installed correctly 1st before attatching the device? Bit more info please mate.
