I recently bought this Samsung monitor and am running Vista Home Premium.
There is a 2"white/grey streak running vertically down the center of the
monitor especially visible on a black background. Can anyone tell me if this
is a sign of backlight failure or is it a graphics card issue?

TIA

radski,

It's hard to say what is causing this problem. It could be a monitor issue,
a driver issue, or even a graphics card issue. Try contacting Samsung
support for possible explanation. Samsung may have seen this issue before
and know exactly what the problem is. You can also try using google to see
what others may have to say about this. Just some thoughts.

The easy way to find out if the problem is with your monitor or your
computer is to connect another computer to the monitor. If you see the
same problem, you know it's the monitor. If the problem doesn't exist on
another computer, you know it's your computer and probably a failing
graphics card.

Have you tried changing the refresh setting? Right click on the desktop and
choose Personalize, choose Display Settings, Advanced Settings, click on the
Monitor tab at the top, now change he refresh settings. 60 is usually safe.

Hello,

How's everything going?

I think Malke provided a good idea, you may follow his way to determine
what the cause is. Based on my experience, this problem is related to
monitor. I recommend you to contact the hardware vendor to solve.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

I'm running one of these monitors and it's superb, especially coming
from a 19" CRT with an 8" blurry section down the centre.

Did you install the drivers for the monitor or play with the brightness
/ colour settings? That said I didn't notice a band down the centre of
the display using the default monitor drivers found in Vista so it could
be a faulty monitor.
