I stole this from the Reverend XP...
Put your XP disk into the drive and then start the machine
up. Now get into the recovery console and type in
chkdsk /r and this will do a repair for you. You can also
click install XP and the system will see that you already
have XP installed and would you like to do a repair. At
any time when prompted for a password just leave it blank
and click enter. Be sure to put the space before the / .
Thanks Bareill.
Could you direct me a bit further please.
When I restarted my computer with the Windows XP CD in the CD ROM drive...
the computer just booted into Safe Mode again (same as before).
Then I clicked on "Admininstrator" and once I saw the desktop I navigated to
the CD and launched the WinXP CD manually.
However, I did not see a "Recovery Console from the available choices
offered in the User Interface for the WinXP CD"?
Where is the Recovery Console found?
Is this a DOS command or maybe its found on the Start Menu somewhere?
Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type msconfig and then click OK.
The System Configuration Utility appears. Uncheck the "/SAFEBOOT" option,
and then click OK.
You then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click Restart.
I'm assuming here that you may have checked the option to start with to go
into safe mode. Really just guessing here.
Once you start normally you should then be able to turn system restore back
on.
