I have been trying to get remote desktop to work but keep
running into a problem. I am able to connect to the other
computer via the internet using an ip address. I get a
screen that ask for my user name and password, I then get
a screen that says the remote user will be locked out of
their computer ( hit ok to continue ) After that I get a
blue screen and a box that says please wait "loading
personal settings" nothing happens for about 10 minutes
and the connection is lost. I have called up the person
at the remote computer and they tell me that the computer
jumped back to the login screen. I don't know if I am
getting the remote server ready the way I should. What I
am doing is having the person log onto the internet and
leave the machine alone? Does anyone have any ideas what
could be going on?

Unfortunately that can happen over a slow dialup link. Are you both on dialup ISPs?

One thing to try is to disable the display of the remote host PC wallpaper. That may help. Configure
that using a Group Policy on the host machine.

On the host, run 'gpedit.msc' from the command line and look at "Local Computer Policy ->
Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Terminal Services" for the policy to "Enforce
Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper"....

Personally I configure all of my XP Pro boxes to not display the wallpaper while in an RD session...
