Problem with reinstalling SP2 - too many processes

On this laptop, I recently had to reinstall SP2. When I purchased this, SP2
was already on it but there was a problem(my fault) that lead to be having to
reinstall it.

Now that it's reinstalled, I've noticed I have ~60 processes running in my
Task Manager, when I usually topped out around 48-49. I don't know what these
11 or so extra processes are, but I believe they're why my computer seems to
be running a little slower, especially at logon.

I ran Windows in Safe Mode and it started up just as fast as it should, so I
don't think that the problem is hardware.

This may not mean anything, but I also notice that the Windows fanfare music
that normally plays when you sign on, doesn't play anymore. :(

Any help or information would be - greatly - appreciated. I've tried
everything I know.

Try add/remove programs,chk the box "list updates",then uninstall SP2,restart
pc,reinstall SP2.Thiers also a "fix" if SP2 is ever uninstalled,#878454
You might
install it,reboot,then reinstall SP2

You may want to download Windows Defender and Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool. They can be found on the windows site and are free. They work
well in finding Spyware and software abnormalities... You may also want to
try the system restore option to see if this issue is directly related to
your sp2 update... You can bring your system to that point check to see if
these setting and process are running and then if you wish you can roll back
again... I tend to doubt it has anything to do with sp2 but anyone can be
wrong...
