There must be a problem with Outlook 2007.....

I have reviewed ALL the entires in this Newsgroup that were entered
regarding the error message "A Data File did not close properly the last time
it was used and is being checked for problems".....etc. After I see this
message I never close Outlook until I see "The Data File Check is Complete".
I have a new PC and got this message the 1st time I opened Outlook to
retrieve new messages. I now get it about 25% of the time I open Outlook
2007. I am using my pst file that I had been using with Outlook 2002 on
another PC and never experienced a single problem. Trying to get this error
message to stop, I have 1) Run Scanpst (inbox Repair Tool), it shows NO
ERRORS. 2) I have made ALL Add-Ins "Inactive" (TOOLS/TRUST CENTER). 3) I
have disabled ALL Micro-Trend Scanning of all Incoming/Outgoing messages. 4)
I have created a NEW Profile. 5) I have checked Task Mgr after I close
Outlook...and Outlook.exe is NOT running (Processes tab).....and no other
software is shown as running (applications Tab). None of these actions has
stopped this error.

Given the number of entries regarding this error message in this Group,
there must be a problem with Outlook 2007.

I have seen other users write they have uninstalled and re-installed Outlook
and it has NOT resolved this problem. I know there are a lot of very smart
people reviewing these Newsgroup entries...as well as Microsoft
employees....and I am hoping someone has the Fix........

Are you running a desktop search program like Google or Windows Desktop
Search? If so, remove Outlook's files from the index and see if that helps.

I wish I was smart enough to feel confident I am responding to your reply
properly. My PC is a new Vista PC... I have looked at Task Mgr\Processes and
I don't see anything that has the name Google, Search or Windows in it. Nor
is there anything like that running under Applications.

If you're using Vista, I suspect Windows Desktop Search was installed for
you as part of an update or it was preinstalled from the vendor. There may
be a Notification Area (right end of the Taskbar near the clock) icon for
it. Hover the pointer over each icon and see what the tooltip says each it.
One of them should mention "indexing". If so, right-click it and you should
get a context menu that will allow you to adjust the indexing properties.
Use it to stop indexing mail. See if that helps.

Hovered Mouse Ponter over every Icon in Taskbar...right sie. None showed
Inexing or Windows Desktop Search...or anything close . I did open Outlook
2007....one of the Add-ins is "Windows Search Email Indexer". I did try
making all Outlook 2007 Add-Ins "Inactive" in the past and that did not
resolve the issue.

Your reply said the Notification "Might" be shown in the Tskbar. Could it
be that Windows Search Indexing is installed but the program was set not to
display the Incon? Is there anyway to find Windows Search Indexing to verify
its running or not? I did do a search in Help and Support for WSI and
nothing came up.

I'm not near my Vista PC right now. I'll check as soon as I can, but
someone else might be able to chime in as well.

Most posts about this problem seem to be when users have shut down their
computer after closing Outlook and outlook.exe may still be running even
though outlook has closed.

But I have this problem on XP SP2 (new Dell core2 duo) even though I don't
shut down my computer.

I use FILE drop down and "close all items" and then EXIT. I look with Task
Manager to be sure outlook. exe is gone and there are NO pplications running
and I leave the system running so my virus checking (Trend Micro PCillin)
will run during the night.

The next day when I open Outlook I get the "file did not close properly"
message. ALmost 100% of the time.

I've read posts where users have turned off Trend Micro, Google desktop,
etc.to no avail but I have not tried anything yet. Is there any way to see
what programs open what files to deetermine which one may be leaving it open?
Doesn't the file itself know who opened it? If not, how can record locking
work? Surely a program that did not open a file can't close it so there must
be some indication of which program opened it within the file system so as to
limit the ability to close it to that program that opened it. What can't the
baloon tell us which program left the file open so we know who the culprit is?
