Problem With Opening folders

Hi all..

I have a problem and need help to fix it.

Usually when you double click on a folder, it opens.

However, on my laptop, when you double click on any
folder, it opens the windows search function.

The only way that i can open a folder is to right click on
the folder and go to 'OPEN' or 'EXPLORE'.

There is however another problem with the right click
which i believe is responsible for the 1st error.

When right clicking on a folder, a dropdown menu appears
with shortcuts to functions related to that folder: I.e,
Open, explore, Send to, Search etc...

At the top of this Dropdown menu is 'OPEN' and this is
usually in a bold font whereas the others are infact not.

Well in my case, the Function in bold at the top of the
menu is 'SEARCH'. Thus, it doesn't open the folder but
instead opens the Search function.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THIS SO THAT 'OPEN' IS AT
THE TOP OF THE FOLDER'S RIGHT CLICK DROPDOWN MENU IN BOLD
and THUS INSTEAD OF OPENING SEARCH, IT OPENS THE FOLDER?

Thanks
Alistair

Hi everybod

I had the same problem as Alistair, and tried to solve it Anando's way, but
instead of going OPEN the directory window goes EXPLORE

Is there any chance of setting it to OPEN function

Thanx
Marti

Martin,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell

In the right-pane, set "open" (without quotes) as the default value.

Hi Ramesh,

I guess you are trying to say that the Default key should not have any value ?

ie (value not set) ?

Hi Anando,

I meant, the default needs to be set to 'open', instead of 'explore'.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell]
@="open"

(As Martin says, "instead of going OPEN the directory window goes EXPLORE")
