Hi,

I have had a HP 550c printeer for quite i while, and its just started to
play up. I no longer prints the text clearly, nore has a staright margin to
its text. It occasionally makes a wiered chrunching sound. Any ideas what
migth be wrong? How i can fix it? Has anyonelse had the same problem.

Many Thanks

Surj.

You would get a better response if you posted your question in the
comp.sys.hp.hardware newsgroup.

Most likely the encoder strip has become dirty, causing the printer to lose
position. See the following for instructions on cleaning the encoder strip:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/hub_search/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bpd50646 .

BTW, this is exactly the proper newsgroup to ask for solutions to questions
about printers, HP or otherwise.

Most of the problems that I have seen with this model can be cured by simply
removing the ink cartridge and cleaning the contacts on the cartridge and in
the socket with a q-tip and plain WATER, NOT alcohol.
