hi
i installed new RAM (same mark) 512MB on my Win 2k server (additional 1GB)
my MB is GigaByte 8IPE1000 and support dual channel Memory
when server is booting detect the complete RAM but Windows (system
properties - general tab) show only 512MB
what wrongs?

Remove old RAM, see if Windows sees new RAM and runs correctly. Check to
be sure the new RAM is in the proper slot on the board, if the manual
says this matters.

If Windows sees the new RAM and runs correctly, then old and new RAM
differ in some important characteristic like timing, and Windows will
not accept this although BIOS will. Windows is quite strict about
identical RAMstick characteristics like response time latency.

If Windows does not see the new RAM and does not run correctly, then the
new RAM is not acceptable to Windows, although it is acceptable to BIOS.
The Windows RAM tests at load time are more demanding than the typical
BIOS tests.

There is a possibility that some motherboard switch setting is incorrect
for the new 1GB RAM config, but that's unlikely if BIOS sees all the RAM.

Counterfeit and/or mislabeled chips of all kinds are big business, too,
and retailers aren't necessarily aware of the real nature of what they sell.
