Problem with networking

I ran the network setup wizard on my desktop computer,
and then on my laptop computer. When I try to "view
workgroup computers" from my laptop, I see both the
desktop(HOST), and livingroom(laptop). This is good right?
When I click on the the "host" icon, I receive an error
msg. "\\Host is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permission." I do have sharing enabled on C:, so I
know that is not my problem. When I click on the laptop
icon, I see everything on this computer.
When I try to "view workgroup computers" from my desktop
(HOST), I do not see either my Host, or my laptop icons,
however, I do receive an error msg saying "Mshome is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.
"The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available." I am the administrator of both computers.
I am using 2 ethernet adaptors, a crossover cable. I have
a dialup modem, so I know that I cannot share internet
connections. I am however wanting to share printers(2)
which are connected to the host, as well as cdrom drives,
and disk drives on both machines.
Can someone help me with this problem, as I have searched
the knowledge base, removed, reinstalled, disabled
enabled, and ran the network setup wizard so many times,
that it is becoming a question as to whether or not
networking these computers will be possible.
thanks,
Paul

Paul,

I had a similar problem. You may want to install (or
activate) My computer that was "hardwired" to my wireless
router was having problems comminicating to my other
computer with the wireless ethernet adapter (upstream). I
was getting the exact error message. Like you, I thought
it was a file sharing permissions issure. However, I had
all my files in sharing mode. MS Support suggetsed that I
install the NWLink IPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport
Protocol. Goto:

Your Wireless Network Connection;

Under the general tab go to Install

Go to Protocol

Install NWLink IPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protoco.

I hope this helps.

I am having the exact same problem. In fact, at one point, I was able to use the network correctly. Then all of a sudden, I received a printer error (My wife was printing from her office to mine) and the Network capability disappeared. I was up all night Friday night trying to correct the error. I haven't been successful yet. I am at work today, so I am not at my machine. I would love to hear if Manny's suggestion worked. Maybe it would give me something positive to look forward to when I get back home. I don't know about you, but I tend to get unhealthily obsessive when my machine goes down....
