problem with network settings

I installed vista today, and my network connection no longer works. right
before the install, I was able to go online. Then, after the upgrade, it's
elling me something about how a cable is unplugged. I checked all my cables,
and that isn't the case. A friend told me to turn on network discovery, but
when I do that, it simply remains off. I select the option to turn it on,
and click apply, and the box collapses, but it still says off. I don't know
if that would help or not, but it can't hurt to mention. If someone could
please point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it very much.

Check for updated drivers for your network card.
