Problem with network printing

Jeff

I have a small SOHO with a server running Win2k Adv Svr
and an AD domain. I also have a Brother 1440 laserjet
printer. When I install the printer as a shared network
printer I sometimes have outputs with only a few garbled
letters at the top of the paper. This wastes a lot of
paper.

If I install the printer as a local printer on a
workstation it prints fine.

Obviously it isn't the printer. Anyone have any ideas
where the problem may lie?

TIA

Is the printer a 'stand-alone' network printer (using a
network adapter-print server) or is it a share on one of
the workstations?

Without knowing that, I would first suggest deleting the
printer from the printers folder of the machines that give
you errors and then reinstalling the printer, being sure
to try and 'discover' the printer on the network. If you
can't 'discover' the printer, then reinstall the printer
using software but modify the printer's ports setting to
add a new Standard TCP port and point it at the printer's
IP address.

Hope that helps.
