I seem to be having a problem with my dvd drive, it's a Nec ND 3520AW.
Whenever i try and do anything with it, watch a movie, listen to a cd
even install some programs the whole computer goes stuttery and slows
down massively, it's not actually possible to watch/listen to anything
as it keep skipping. I ran the nero drive diagnostic and accoding to
the results when the drive's working at 8x speed it's taking up 77% of
the CPU resources, does this seem right, it seems very high to me.

I think I may have the jumpers on the drive set so it's the primary IDE
device (have a SATA hard drive) would this have anything to do with it?

Computer is an Asus Pundit-r with a 2.4 ghz celeron chip and 1gb of RAM

any ideas/help would be awesome

cheers

Running Windows? If so, check Device Manager to see if it's
using PIO mode or UMDA. Actually the setting is in the
Properties for the drive controller, not the drive itself on
Win2k/XP.

it was running pio, switched it to umda and problem solved, cheers

When I plugged in my NEC 3540 it selected UDMA automatically. I did
not have to set it manually.
