Problem with Minolta Sacn Dual IV . . .

6 months old and I try to scan some slides tonight and I get the message
"could not confirm scanner connection, please check connection". All
connections are OK and I uninstalled/reinstalled the software and all I
get is the power light on the scanner blinking 6 short blinks then a
pause and 6 more short blinks repeated over and over. The power button
will not turn the scanner off, it must be turned off at the power strip.
When turned back on the scanner makes a "growling" noise for a few
seconds and then the power light starts it blinking and the noise stops.
Any ideas or suggestions?

These are some things I have learned about the Minolta Scan Dual IV film
Scanner.

The 6 blinks I counted as 5 blinks so my reference is to 5 blinks on the
above web page.
