problem with many reoccuring sound files...

Here's the low down -

i am trying to get a countdown effect. I have 3:00 minutes and a frame for
each second down to 0:00. I have it set to automatically advance every 1
second. I have, in each frame, a sound file that plays a "tick" is in each
frame. It was inserted by going to INSERT - SOUND FROM FILE... It's an MP3
and the whole sound is no more than .143 seconds, and is less than 4kb.

Well... the problem is that the sound just stops playing around 0:30 (but
each time I run it the sound stops on a different frame, but no more than
plus or minus 10 seconds/frames from :30)... Not only do the ticks stop
playing, but the rest of the sounds for events and slides after the countdown
also don't play.

If it matters, I don't think the sound is embedded because I can edit the
file and it changes on the slides, if it were embeded I would have to
reinstate the sound with the updated editing.

Please, any help you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated. This is for a
play that we're doing and it's crucial the ticks and all other sounds play.
Thanks!

Hi Michael

Few things:
1. You can only embed .wav files. However you can fool powerpoint into
thinking your mp3 is a .wav - details here:
http://www.technologytrish.co.uk/pptembedmp3.html
2. In tools -> options -> general -> link sound files greater than -> push
that number way up. I know the ticking file is smaller, but you may want to
re-insert some of your other files so they embed. Makes life simpler.
3. You can add sounds to transitions. At the bottom of the drop down list it
says 'other sound' and you can browse to your file (which is best kept in the
same folder as the presentation). Removing the ticking inserted sound may
clear up the other sound file issues if they were working before.
4. You should probably read this to avoid future frustrations :-) Play
sounds across multiple slides (a WAV runs through it)

Hope that helps

Wow, cool advice. I managed a work around of my own. I changed the ticks to
..wavs, then that automatically embeded them. Tested the file 5 times now, and
it's getting through the countdown and the following MP3s are playing too...
Hopefully, this will hold. but thank you very much - your links and
suggestions will definitely keep me on the up and up for future PP
endeavours. Thank you, whole-heartedly, for your suggestions.
