Problem with mailto links longer than 256 characters

Good afternoon (or evening, or morning, or whatever),
One of my coworkers recently received a new laptop. It has the latest
IE 6 installed, as well as Outlook 2003 with all the latest updates. In
fact, it has the exact same builds as my desktop does. Anyhow, when she
clicks on a mailto link that is longer than 256 characters (it prepopulates
the subject and body) Internet Explorer crashes and asks to send a report to
Microsoft. As I understand it, the limit on link length in IE 6.0 is 2K, so
I can't figure out why this would be happening. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Outlook, but to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

PA Bear,

Why do you refer them to an outlook board when it isn't an Outlook problem.
I'm having the same problem with my new computer and a mail link that is
prepopulated in both the subject and body. It isn't Outlook or Outlook
express that's crashing, it's internet explorer.

The error message that comes up is This program encoutered a problem and
needs to close.

The error details do not show a specific module, it says unknown.

I am running IE and OE 6 and winxp sp2.

I have another computer running the exact same thing and I don't have the
problem. I have not been able to replicate the problem anywhere else. Only
on this brand new Dell 9150.

I had installed Netscape and Firefox - the error occurred on those two
browsers also.

I thought it might be caused by the PCMover program moving over all the
stuff from my old to my new computer, and in turn causing a conflict or
something in the registry.

I ran two registry checker/cleaner programs yesterday. Found lots of
invalid keys (probably from the move) but after I cleaned it all up - I still
had the problem in IE, but now in Firefox or Netscape the browser freezes but
doesn't crash instantly upon clicking the mail link.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE and OE. I have refreshed my
scripting engine. I have refreshed my .dll's. I am at a loss as to the
cause or how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
