I recently upgraded my RAM and installed a wireless PC
card and when I started the system, I get Log On to
Windows dialog box with my wife's name in it as the User
and then I have to type a password. I never had this
before and have tried all passwords I can think of which
we may have used but nothing works as we get "The system
could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain
are correct, then type your password again.etc". I
searched the Microsoft website to find the solution and
thought I had it with the below:

The Log On to Windows dialog box may be displayed with
incorrect credentials after the Autologon feature had been
unsuccessful, and you received the following error
message:
The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name
and domain are correct, then type your password again.
Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because the Autologon feature is
attempting an automatic logon for a user account that does
not exist. Either the account has been deleted or removed,
but the registry settings for that account are still
intact.
RESOLUTION
To work around the problem that concerns the hidden
Administrator Logon dialog box, press ALT+TAB to bring the
dialog box to the front of the screen so that you can log
on to the computer with valid credentials.

To work around the other problem, remove or update the
appropriate registry key if the Autologon feature is
required for an existing account. If you do not need or
you do not want the Autologon feature, change the setting
of the Autologon feature so that AutoAdminLogon=0.

Well this did not work when I tried the ALT+TAB key as I
did not get anything different. I tried reloading Windows
XP but it is not seeing the disk and give me the same Log
On screen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Mike

I figured out how to get around this. User:
Administrator and Password:what I used originally to
install XP. Maybe this will help others.

I have a problem VERY similar to yours. If you ever
resolve your problem, any advice would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks, Catie
