I have used FrontPage 2000 on my XP machine for about a
year now with no problems. Suddenly, on Friday, I could
no longer open htm files or save new ones. When I tried,
the program stopped responding. It opens up with a new
page, as it always has. I can design a page, but the
second I go to save it, it locks up.

I removed it through add/delete programs and reinstalled
it, but it is still doing the same thing.

Does anyone have any idea why I can't open or save pages
or more importantly, is there a way I can fix it?

Thanks.

Dave,
It's possible this is a Frontpage thing.... but maybe more likely the fault of
something else. Sometime around or before Friday did you add any other
programs, or do any Microsoft Update installations? You may have to do a
registry restore back to say, Thursday to get things back to where they were.

Are you running WinXP or something else. If you are unsure about tackling the
registry restore in something other than XP, write back.

Yes, I installed the latest windows update on Friday,
(the one with the hole for pop up ads) and it hasn't
worked right since. What would I need to do from here?
I am using XP but don't know anything about registry
editing. Thanks for any help you can give.

OK.... that's all good news actually. Fortunately in this case you won't need
to mess with the registry.
I figured it was something like that. Here's the deal. Go to Control Panel
then Add/Remove Programs. Remove the Hotfix number whater-it-was.... highlight
it then Remove, you know. :)

So of course you'll have to know which number it was....I believe it was 828750.
But I am seeing now that it wasn't exactly a "Hotfix" so in the end, we may have
to go the registry route. If the thing is in Add/Remove programs, uninstall it.
If not, write back. I haven't installed that one yet, or I'd already have the
answer for you.

Nonetheless, if you get it uninstalled, Frontpage should be back to normal. But
write back and fill us in on how everything went, so future users can benefit.
