Problem with Kyocera FS-680- Help please

Hi People,
My old laser printer is acting up.
It only prints one line of gobbledegook per sheet no matter what package I print from.
It prints the status page no problem(from the buttons on the front of it, not via the PC)
It occaisionally bursts into life by itself and prints another line of garbage.
I've uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it using updated drivers, no difference.
I've replaced the cable,again no difference.
It would be ashame to bin it as it's only done 16000 odd pages.
It's directly connected to my PC's parallel port.
I've got another epson printer connected which works perfectly.
But I only use that for colour.
Any suggestions? is it the memory that's gone(4MB's)

It is a communication's problem ... but I see you did the usual.

What OS?


I can only suggest you try it on another PC, or laptop.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I tiried it on my wifes PC and got the same results.
Both machines are using XP Pro.
Any way of testing the memory?

One crucial piece of information you neglected to say was ... what the printer is? ;)

Testing the memory should be on the menu of the printer, somewhere, if not, then you can 'test' it in another printer or, if it's a HP LaserJet then that actually uses SIMMs and you could test using an old PC.

I do not think it is a memory 'problem' as I have seen this before and it has always been a 'communication's' problem ... bad cable/bad corrupted drivers/windows gone bad ... but you have eliminated all these.

The other 'option' is a dieing printer. :(

Well, sorry to say, so am I ... that printer also uses 72pin SIMMs ... if you can find any laying around, I would not buy just to test, then go ahead.

Some things just die on us I'm afraid ... if anybody else out there can offer any further assistance, then please do.
