Problem with Internet Explorer

P

Paolo Nunberg

Hi,

I am running XP Pro SP2 and I connect to the Internet through a wireless
network and a shared ADSL connection on another computer with the same
configuration.
Everything was OK till a few days ago.
Now a strange phenomenon occurs: I cannot browse any site on the web using
IE: the progress bar extends very slowly and nothing happens.
On the other hand, if I type the URL in the address bar of Windows Explorer,
things do work, unless I click an hyperlink which opens a new window; in
this case IE is called and the behaviour is the same as above.
Opera does not work either.
A third computer on the same network works perfectly well.

Any suggestion?

The first thing I will assume is that you may have spyware installed on your
computer.

Try other internet programs besides your web browser.

Do some simple tests, on the wireless computer, go into command prompt and
type: ping www.yahoo.com

a) You computer will get a reply which tells you are connected to your DNS
server(your router) correctly.
or
b) You do not receive a reply from www.yahoo.com which could mean a few
things.

If you do not receive a reply:
Goto command prompt, type: ipconfig /all
this will tell u all active connections, ip addresses, gateways, dns servers
etc.
Ping your router while connected wirelessly, if you can ping your router and
you also can ping yahoo.com, the most likely problem is either A)spyware
B)corrupt winsock C)your router or D)your dsl modem settings
