When I try to install Movie Maker 2 either directly, or
after downloading it to my disk, I get "Setup was unable
to upgrade the Windows installer" message.

I am running XP Home edition with all the latest updates.

Any Suggestions?

Hi there,

The windows installer package is Microsoft's answer to programs like
InstalShield etc.

The program you are trying to install requires that the installer
software on your system be a certain version number or better. I once saw my
system report that it was updating that software. I appreciate you have
already said you have all of the updates. But, have you checked the log file
(available from the Windows Update Screen) and had checked that at some time
you have actually installed an updated installer? Even if you find that you
have, you can select one of the options so that it will be installed
again...this is difficult without having the right screen in front of
me....read the update screen carefully...you will no doubt find the right
option that shows all installed files.

If all else fails have a look in the "Remove Programs" options of your
control panel. Cause a removal to occur (if available) and then reboot, and
then run Windows Update again.

Sorry that's rather vague, but hopefully it will point you in the right
direction.
