Problem with IE6 and Accessing Secure Pages Through SOCKS5 Proxy

I have IE6 using a SOCKS5 proxy which works fine for HTTP connections.
As soon as I try to visit a secure site via HTTPS, IE6 just throws up an
error that it couldn't connect to the server. Firefox and Opera don't
seem to have any trouble initiating SSL connections through a SOCKS
proxy, but I can't for the life of me figure out why IE6 will not.

Any help?

Thanks.

Have you checked to see if the setting is proper at:

Tools...Internet Options...Connections tab...LAN settings...Advanced
button...Secure: Proxy address to use: Port

You could use a tool like Proxy Manager -
http://www.gonsoft.com/products.htm - to see if the proxy is set up
correctly, and it will auto-set IE's proxy settings.

On IE's Internet Options...Advanced page, toggle the checkmarks besides the
HTTP 1.1 settings to see if that helps.

Or, could it be you're having trouble with https:// sites in general?

Yes. As I said it works with HTTP, just not with HTTPS. There is only
one proxy server entered on the SOCKS proxy line - all of the other
lines are blank. That it works with HTTP servers indicates that the port
is correct.

Already been done.

No. They work from a direct connection and they work through the very
same proxy using Firefox and Opera.

Thank you for the links, but all of them appear to be related to having
problems accessing secure sites in general. I do not have problems
accessing them unless it's through a SOCKS proxy.

It turns out that "Use TLS 1.0" needs to be enabled under Tools -
Internet Options -> Advanced.

Thanks for your assistance.
