Before installing this 'fix' I can access a site I use
for work. After installing it, I can load the log-in
page, but any attempt to log in leaves me with a 'Page
cannot be displayed'.

Occurs on both XP and 2000 PC - same error on both.

If I uninstall the Fix, I can then access the site
normally, and log in without problem.

I have no way to report this to Microsoft, since I'm not
wuilling to pay them to hear my problem.

Anyone have any tips for me?

Go to Tools > Options > Connections > Settings. Uncheck "Automatically
detect settings".

Check your proxy settings in IE if you are going through a proxy.

Thanks, but that isn't it. No proxy server in use,
and 'Automatically detect settings' is not checked. If I
do check it, I get the same error.

Anyone else?

It is a secure server (https), and the initial site lods.
THere, I type in username, and password. THe URL after
that does not display a username/password, however.

It is possible that the URL initially does have that
info, and then it transitions to the URL that I see. Do
you think that is the cause of the problem? If so, then
there's nothing I can do about it - I have to use the
site, and unless Verio (the site provider) feels like
fixing it, there is little I can do.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Perhaps it's because your site is trying to pass the username and
password through the URL. Up until the latest fix, you could "push"
through a username and password by using the syntax
username:p[email protected]. In that case, there's nothing you can do.
It's something they'll have to fix. Just a guess.

Thanks! I'll test it out and see if it works.

Rick,
I think I know where Dan P was headed with his answer. Try the registry edit
in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834489
(How to disable the new default behavior for handling user information in
HTTP or HTTPS URLs)
