Lately I've been having a problem that any time I open up IE, within 5-10
seconds of the page loading (regardless of the website) I get the XP
"Microsoft IE has encountered and error and must be shut down, sorry for the
inconvenience" message, and my browser session ends. This happens even when
this is the only software running. I'm running Windows XP, and was using IE 6
with the SP 1 update, and it had been working for a while. I tried backing
out via uninstall to the last IE version, and did that successfully, but I
still got the same problem. Same after a re-install.
Not sure if it's related, but recently, I was having a problem that every
time an IE session was kicked off, I would get a popup message that said it
needed to install something from MS Small Business and would ask for the
disc. Canceling it worked fine, but it happened every time you opened a
browser by clicking on the IE icon or chose it from the program list (using
the CTRL-N shortcut did not invoke the popup)
I ran a few various virus and spyware scans, and it seems clean, other than
some random pesky ad cookies I dumped.
Any thoughts?
