Problem with Help Display on VS.Net 2003

I'm running VS.Net 2003 on an XP system with the most recent MSDN library
integrated into it. When you do a search in the help, only "a"'s appear in
the search results title column as a column 1 character wide, with nothing
appearing in the rank or location columns (this is in the VS.Net window).
Double clicking on any row will bring up an article resulting from the
search, with the problem of not knowing what the article is until you bring
it up individually. This behaved the same with the previous MSDN library.
When the MSDN library is brought up separately from VS.Net it behaves fine.
Is there a setting in VS.Net that I can change or do I have to uninstall
and reinstall it, taking my chances?

Thanks in advance,

Steve House

Steve,

Thank you for posting here in the group. Please try changing the Preferred
Collection property in Tools>Options>Environment>Help. If the problem still
occurs, you will need to uninstall MSDN, remove the remailned files and
registry keys, and then Install the MSDN again:

1. Uninstall MSDN library for VS.Net 2003

2. Uninstall the latest MSDN installed on your machine

3. Verify the following files are removed:
a. \Program Files\MSDN (MSDN Library)
b. \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft Help
(Catalogs and indices for MSDN)
c. \Documents and Settings\All Users \Application Data\Microsoft\MSDN\7.0
(CTM files for each language)
d. \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Help (Document Explorer)

4. Remove the following registry entries if they exist: (be careful):
a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\2.0
b. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDN\QTR
c. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\Help
d. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDN\7.0\Help

5. Reinstall the latest MSDN library.

Sorry, I did everything you suggested but it still is messed up. I was
wrong in my original email, it is only an MSDN problem, since it does it
when MSDN is brought up on its own.

Justine,

I followed your template again with some suggestions from MS KB on MSDN
removal in addition to removal of help. Did a search for MSDN in both the
hard drive and the directory, installed the pre-SP2 for XP, ran Norton to
clean up the registry, rebooted several times and it works now.

Thanks,
Steve
