Hello,

My W2k behaves strangely: I've got a permanent grey background,
and huge font size in IExplorer and most IExplorer-based screens (all
help files (.chm) , "Add/remove Program" window, ... )

I checked against colors and fonts user's definitions in the IE
options. There are none. I tried the Windows Display prefs, this
doesn't change anything. I tried to unistall it and reinstall it from
the CD. Nothing has changed.

This PC is not connected to Internet, so I cannot download the new IE
installation packages, sicne they require that the PC is connected to
Internet for downloading the installations items.

Any body an idea for getting me out of these problems ?

Thanks,

Laurent

More info required.
Does the machine ever display properly?
What does Event Viewer report?
Does Device Manager show any problems?
Why are you assuming this is a W2k or IE problem?
Have you checked that display properties are set properly?

Thanks Dan for getting back to me.

The problem is really located in IE (the same .html pages are displayed
correctly in Netscape, Opera, or in IE on another computer). There is
nothing listed in the event viewer. Nothing special in the Device
Manager, and the display properties of W2K are correct.

Everything in W2K works normally except the display of IE and IE-like
pages (as I mentioned: Add/Remove program).

It is like IE has a default hidden style sheet somewhere, which is not
overridden by (for html pages) specific ones (css files).
Is it possible to download a full (and unique) installation file ?

Laurent, I see this plea but cannot help; I never use IE and don't know
whether it can be removed/added via the usual W2k routines. Try posting
in an IE newsgroup.

You could try posting the particulars of the problem you are having in
one of the Internet Explorer newsgroups

I was having the same problem, and just found the solution:

In Settings>Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display there are options
related to "high contrast mode". Turn them off, and turn off the <left shift
+ left alt + print screen> shortcut that toggles them. That shortcut is
apparently how I got into them in the first place.
