Hello.
After attempting to install software for a HP 8100 cdwriter on a
compaq deskpro
running windows XP, some kind of error occurred. Now windows complains
about the problem everytime the system restarts. Somehow I can't
remove the software in the configuration pannel.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for any feedback on this issue, kind regards, Niek

What is the software? You could not remove the software from Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel right?

Probably the original cd that came with the cd writer with software
for Windows 98. I didn't install the software myself but subsequently
found software for the CD writer which is supposed to be compatible
with windows XP
('HP RecordNow'). In Start>Programs, I can still see an entry for 'HP
CD-Writer Plus', the faulty software that is probably causing
problems.
In Settings>Configuration>Software, I can only find a reference to 'HP
RecordNow'.

I have a (partial) screenshot of the exact error reported when Windows
is starting up (in dutch with my translation):

Go to Start>Run Type: msconfig select Startup Tab uncheck any
item that refers to the software.

Here is a screenshot of the Startup Tab. Do you have any idea which
entries
could be related to the faulty software?

If that doesnt work then go to Start>Run Type: regedit
Select HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Run, Run Once etc. Click on the Folders
and in the right pane look for any reference to your software and delete
it. Also, the same for
Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run, Run
Once etc.

This is a screenshot of the regedit screen. (Run Once is empty, just
like the Run and Run Once entries for HKey_Current_User.)
Perhaps you can identify the entry of the faulty software here?

Maybe you can help me on the basis of these screenshots, if not,
thanks anyway for your help so far.
