i am trying to install a dvdburner program and get this message failed to decrypt data drive region incompatiable copy protection error the current dvd,s region does not correspond to the region setting of the drive

Every DVD drive is set up initially for the region/country where it was
sold. If you try to play a CD from another region, you get this message. You
can allow this to happen, but be forewarned! You can only change the region
4 times. Then the DVD drive will be locked, forever, onto the final region.
This will possibly stop you from playing DVD from your own country/region.

What ???? How and why did this happen? I know that those concerned with
copyright issues have had some control on CD's but did not believe that they
had their fingers into the hardware involved. Do you have more info on
this?

Thanks
Barry

The last 3 DVD drives I installed on my own computers, plus "many" more I
installed on computers I have built for my clients, have this built in.

Why don't you look in device manager. Find the entry for your DVD drive.
Then, look for the "region" tab. Mine currently says "remaining changes 4",
as I have never changed the region on any drive I own.

Where the problem comes in is through "rental" shops. I have had to take
back more than a dozen rentals over the past year because they were for a
different region. I refuse to play them in my drive as it will change the
region, and decrement the remaining allowable changes.
