Hi, we have developed a custom web based management
system. Users are able to upload scanned documents to
the system that can be later viewed. The problem we are
facing is that most twain drivers scans and store files
in TIF format. When our users try to open these files,
we get error that the file is not found in the temp
folder. They are then forced to first save the file on
their HDD and then open it. This problem is only with
the TIF file format and we do not face any issues with
anyother file format. We all use IE6.0 to use this
system. Did anyone else have faced this problem and can
tell me what could be the possible issue here and the
resolution for it.

Thanks

Hi Abdul - .tiff - The following sites provide browser plug-ins that enable
the display of TIFF images in the browser. Some are free, some not. I
personally use the free Alterna TIFF and have found it very safisfactory:
http://www.alternatiff.com/

Quick View Plus from http://www.jasc.com/
AlternaTIFF from Medical Informatics Engineering
TIFFSurfer from VisionShape
GrafixView from InfoMill
ViewDirector Prizm from TMSSequoia
CVista Lite Viewer from CVision Technologies
CPC View from Cartesian Products
GrafixView from InfoMill
KeyView Pro from Verity
CSView150 from CSU
TruDef Browser Plug-in from Total Multimedia
RasterNet from Snowbound Software
SwiftView Plug-in from SwiftView
Tifsite from Blueglobe (for Macintosh)
Accel ViewTIFF from Acordex (Macintosh only)

Jim, thanks. I still have the issue. The error message I
am getting now is:

Cannot find 'file:///c:/Documents%20and%
20Settings/Saquib/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%
20Files/Content.IE5/SP81MFo9/Scan03-10-09%201456%5B1%
5D.tif'. Make sure the path or internet address is
correct.

Have you seen this kind of error before? It seems that
the TIF browser cannot find the file in the temp folder
where it think the file should be.

Thanks for help again.

Hi Abdul - No, I haven't. Try clearing your TIF to include deleteing the
Index.dat file (It may be corrupt). In IE6 Tools|Internet Options then
Delete files. Check delete offline content also. You can use Spider, free,
here: http://www.fsm.nl/ward/ to delete the Index.dat file (or all of it,
for that matter). I would also install CacheSentry here:
http://www.enigmaticsoftware.com/ It fixes a couple of TIF bugs. See if
that improves things.

Hi Abdul - What are the specific circumstances of this error message? Are
you getting this message on line with IE6 using the Alterna tiff plugin?
Have you tried downloading the .tiff and opening it with Kodak or Irfan
View?

I can open the TIF file with any viewer once it is
downloaded. The problem is when I try to open it without
downloading.

Hi Abdul - Did you manage to get the Alterna plugin installed successfully
at the link I gave (http://www.alternatiff.com/) ?
