Hi,

Im trying to fix something that is annoying me on my laptop...

When I try to type a double or single quote - i.e. ' or "
I have to press the key twice, which produces 2 quotes, then delete one
of the them in order to be left with a single quote.

Its really annoying! any ideas?

You're using the US-International keyboard layout, which is provided to
facilitate typing special characters like ä. This can be turned off in
Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Details |
Settings.

I only use the shift key when trying to write '

But Im not quite sure that those references actually help me with my
problem...

Im trying to make it so that I only have to press the key once in order
to make a quote or an apostrophe get printed onto the screen,,,,

thx

Strange. On my US-English keyboard when I simply press the key in
question I get ' . If I press Shift+the key I get " . Maybe Ken's
answer below might help you.

Yeah. If you try the US-International keyboard you will see what the OP
is experiencing, Ken hit the nail on the head in his post. In essence
you have to hit 2 keys for the character to appear, thus the OP is
hitting the same key twice and getting the doubles. He only needs to
press the spacebar or a punctuation key and the proper ' or " will show.
In other words not a problem if you type normally, but, until you get
used to it, a bit distracting when you're looking at the screen while
you type.

John

but is there any way to turn it off? I'm only typing in english, and
really don't have a need for this "feature".

Thanks,
Adam

Go in the Control Panel and change the the Input locale/Keyboard layout
from US-International to US-English; or follow Ken's advice in his post
below which reads:

"You're using the US-International keyboard layout, which is provided to

Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Details |
Settings."
