Clear starup as a first step. See if it is something that was recently installed or a service that is causing an issue.

Start>Run>MSCONFIG>Selective Startup>Startup Tab>disable all

This practice may disable things that cause certain hardware to function properly. Things like HP printers that have services that start will be affected. If you have a network connected printer, things should work as normal. Scanners and cameras typically have software that will start when the application designed to operate it is started. Virus scanners can be affected as well. Protection will be down during this troubleshooting time. If you require these services to be enabled after the fact, Google your virus software for XXXX Services or startup programs. This should tell you what to enable.

My first guess is virus or malware in general. Unless you installed something recently, that is the most likely culprit. If you recently installed a piece of hardware or software, remove it and see if you go back to normal operation.

Try CC cleaner. its a free software! Search for it online and download it, It might help. I do know that a lot 'startup' programs that get installed when you install stuff is not really needed there.Such as any Adobe startup programs exept maybe the Adobe distiller. Not sure of this one though.I know that the startup program you DO need is your ISP connections and your anti-virus program. If you have more than one anti-virus running, remove one! You do not need more than one anti-virus program!! It hogs up the computer resources! I can't think of what other startup programs you may need at this time.
