Hi everyone,

Just installed Vista SP2.
Everything seems to work OK except for my Dell 1720 printer. It now prints
an extra page before the actual document to be printed.
There are just a few spurious characters printed at the top of this unwanted
page. The following "proper" pages are OK.

I have, so it seems, the lastest driver available.

any clue ? any thing I should check or try ?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help.
with best regards,
Daniel

Did you clear the printer's internal buffer in case the spurious data is
stuck there?

Otherwise, try uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling the printer
driver. After uninstalling follow the manufacturer's instructions for
installing the driver from scratch.

Hello RalfG,

Many thanks for your message.

I did what you suggested, meaning uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling
the printer driver & Dell software, to no avail.

I then I decided to remove the associated software, w/o uninstalling the
driver, and, as far as I can see, it seems to work.

However, now I have no means to know the status of the printer (e.g. toner
low).

many thanks for your kind help.
Best regards,
Daniel

But have you gone online to Dell's website to see if they have a driver
update? If they haven't, they will surely need to have one soon.

Were you printing as in "fax" mode ; first page is usually the "cover"
page .

About the only thing I can think of at this point is that you get the
download version of the printer software from Dell and install it using the
'run as administrator" option from the explorer context menu.

It could be because he uses US Letter size paper, with the printer
set for metric size A4.
