Hi to all!

I built a PC for a friend of mine based on a P4B-533-E board. Everything worked
fine, never had any stability or other problems.

Suddenly, a couple of days ago, when he sent the PC to StandBy-Mode (he almost
always used the StandBy instead of properly shutting down, OS is Windows XP
SP1), the PC made a siren-like non-stop sound (hi-low, high-low). He onlygot
the PC silent by pushing the ON/OFF button for several seconds. The PC shut off
completely.

After that, the PC does not start. The lights go on, but nothing appears on the
screen, the lights on the keyboard do not even flicker. Nothing! It seemsthat
it hangs before booting. My friend says that it tries to find something in the
DVD- and burner drives. But if you disconnect the drives, the PC still doesn't
boot. It doesn't matter how long you push the ON/OFF button, it does not start.

If needed, I could provide more hardware details: Bios should be around 1.07,
definite not the latest, but not the earliest. VGA is ATI AIW, 1 harddisk, Sony
DVD and TEAC burner, everything pretty standard.

I have tried Google, the Asus pages, but I do not have a clue. Any ideas what
may have happened? Solutions? Thank you very much in advance!

Sounds like either the motherboard or the power supply has failed.
