When I run a scan for downloads it says I need Windows XP
Sevice pack 1. But there is an error everytime I download
and it doesn't complete. I have tried this several times.
I started having trouble with my computer after the first
time. I have gone back into check the status of my
downloads and on at least 2 occasions it is saying that
download is in progress. I belive this is why I am having
so much trouble. How do I make it stop downloading! I have
tried everything. I have completly shut down the computer,
I have shut down microsoft. Nothing is working. Any ideas?

True. The "Get Help and Support" selection lists "Windows
Update Troubleshooter" which may help you solve the
problem. Sometimes this suggests to clear out a
particular directory.

Another method I found helpful is the following. Under
Windows Update, Other Options, select Personalize Windows
Update. Check the checkbox for "Display the link to the
Windows Update Catalog under See Also." Click on Save
Settings. Next click on "See Also" -> "Windows Update
Catalog." Now select SP1 or whatever you need from the
list, download and save it, and install it as you would
any software installation. This often works.
